Historical Kyoto

I am sure that any Japanese anime fan has seen a show that at least has a story line about Kyoto in it peaking the viewer's curiosity to look up the city that is indeed a fascinating place full of wonders.

I mean, how can you not be?

Kyoto was formerly the imperial capital of Japan for more than one thousand years and one historical nickname for the city is "The City of Ten Thousand Shrines" even though the city itself has only 1600. Kyoto is best known as a bastion of Japan’s traditional past, where the visual and performing arts developed during the feudal era still command the highest respect.

It would have indeed been very interesting to see what Kyoto was like in the InuYasha series but it might have been most likely rebuilding itself as fighting in and around Kyoto lasted for nearly 11 years, leaving the city almost completely destroyed. This was brought up by the Onin War (1467–1477), a conflict rooted in economic distress and brought on by a dispute over shogunal succession, is generally regarded as the onset of the Sengoku period. The "eastern" army of the Hosokawa family and its allies clashed with the "western" army of the Yamana.

It is quite a shame that we could not see Kyoto appear in the InuYasha series as it was only mentioned once in the manga and series near the beginning as "The Capital". But I don't really know how it would have been able to fit into the story line or have any ties to Naraku either. But at least it got mentioned.

But, there were only a few animes that I know of that did put this wonderful city into their storyline whether it be about fighting an enemy there to a chance to use the spiritual ways/nature of the city or just where they are on a fieldtrip or a vacation to this fascinating place

From many other articles that I have come across online and the way they describe it, Kyoto is deeply rooted in spiritual ways as well as energy, as it has always been a city of spiritual awareness as it is quite known to be the haven for many ghosts, gods and spirits. As one person commented and I do agree with I couldn't begin to imagine the countless spirits across centuries of history that prowl those streets.

I am very intrigued with Kyoto and its beautiful, unique history. So much that I am trying to work a way for Kyoto into my storyline.

I acknowledge that I don't own Nurarihyon no Mago or the screenshots. They belong to Hiroshi Shiibashi
